Objective To investigate the damage effect and characteristics of sodium metavanadate on neurobehavioral function in rats. Methods After 30 days of exposure to sodium metavanadate, the motor coordination and learning and memory abilities of rats were tested by the rotation bar test and water maze test. Results ① The dwell time of the rats in the high-dose group dropped the most obviously, while the blank control group and the low-dose group were not obvious. Overall, the difference between the three groups was not statistically significant; compared with each other, the high dose group was significantly lower than the blank control group and low dose group (P <0.05). ②Water maze test There was no difference in the time required for landing on the rats in each group; the number of errors was statistically significant (P <0.05), followed by the high-dose group and the low-dose group. Conclusion Sodium metavanadate can impair the ability of learning and memory in rats. Long-term exposure to high concentration of sodium metavanadate can impair the motor coordination ability, indicating that sodium metavanadate can impair neurobehavioral function in rats.
