Objective To fully utilize the stems and leaves of sweet potatoes, and to provide references for the extraction of effective components from plants. Method Chlorogenic acid content was detected by high performance liquid chromatograph; and flavonoids content was detected by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Result Contents of flavonoids and chlorogenic acid varied greatly in different organs of sweet potatoes. Among them, leaves had the maximum contents of flavonoids and chlorogenic acid, which were 9. 46% and 4. 45% . Young stems had the minimum content of chlorogenic acid, which was 0. 72% ; and old stems had the minimum content of flavonoids, which was 2. 20% . Conclusion Contents of flavonoids and chlorogenic acid were very high in the leaves and stems of sweet potatoes, which could be developed into natural medicines.
