1984年春,在我校生物教研组提议下,经过领导、师生和部分学生家长的共同努力,建立了“动物苑舍”,为改革生物教学开辟了第二渠道. “苑舍”面积为27.5平方米(长14米、阔1.8米).背面泥墙,正面砖墙0.8米高,上面围木栅栏.正面墙首端绘制了彩色的“动物进化系统树”,在各饲养间的栅栏上,挂上所饲养动物照片或形态彩图,并对该动物生态、分布、经济价值作简单的说明词.门内迎面挂有“我国稀有动物”和“我校珍贵动物标本”的大型彩色图片.墙上还张挂了六幅彩色动物国画.苑舍的一端是饲养中背鹭的“鹭池”,另一端是饲养自鹇、竹雉、斑鸠的“雉苑”.中间部分是按动物进化顺序饲养的鲤鱼、鲫鱼、大鲵、大蟾蜍、大绿蛙、龟、氅、颈棱蛇、水赤链蛇、角鸮、鹰鵰、黄鼬等动物的饲养廊.为反映动物的生态环境.在养牛背鹭的舍内设水池、木砧,在雉苑内栽植常青灌木,设置沙地等.这样布局,既符合观赏,又结合动物教学.
