Objective To investigate the relationship between the vascular formation (vascular density) and clinical stage by staining the microvessels in renal cell carcinoma with immunohistochemistry. Methods 41 cases of renal cell carcinoma paraffin sections were immunohistochemically stained with monoclonal antibody against Factor-relatedantigen (FS-relatedantigen), and the number of microvessels in × 200 visual field and the cells were counted. Results The average number of blood vessels in Robson stage Ⅰ was 421, in stage Ⅱ 56.3 and in stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ 84.4. Vascular count was correlated with clinical stage (P <0.05). Conclusion With the increase of malignant degree of the tumor, the blood vessel density also increases. The angiogenesis can be used as a reliable index to judge the progress of renal cell and estimate the prognosis.
