After reviewing Lisbil’s Poll’s silver medal in equestrian events at the 1952 Olympic Games, the authors review the results of research on the physical and mental impairments of horseback riding in the international arena. The three-dimensional motion on horseback simulates human gait, enabling disabled patients to experience normal exercise sensations. The patient constantly adapts to various motor changes on the horseback, thus improving motor coordination and balance and correcting bad posture. Adaptation to horse riding can improve joint mobility, increase muscle flexibility and strength, and some have also reduced pain and improved sleep.
