In Ralph Ellison’s June Celebration, memory is an important theme. The content of the novel involved in memory is mainly reflected in the conflict between different memories of father and son. Father and son here include both father and son in the real world, as well as father and son on the symbolic level. Based on Haberwah’s theory of collective memory, this essay examines the different manifestations of the memory conflict between father and son in family, black community and ethnic groups in “June Celebration” from the perspective of memory, The personal memories of children, the personal memory of their children and their collective memories of their parents, and the collective memory of their father and son and the cultural significance behind the conflict, and thus illustrates that the conflict of memory between father and son is essentially a black and white culture conflict.
