我天性喜画,画在文先。上世纪70年代末一系列伤痕小说发表之前,已有15年丹青生涯。由于世人知我多缘自文学,故以为我先文后画。这里执意加以说明,是因为我后来的写作常常运用画家特有的视觉思维。自我操弄笔墨,至今50年。虽有时全心写作、有时倾心于文化遗产保护,然丹青之恋,犹然未已,时断时续,不曾放弃。我曾在旧金山举办画展时,做过一个演讲,题目叫做“绘画是文学 I nature like painting, painting first in the text.
