诺贝尔文学奖获得者美国作家约翰.斯坦贝克的作品《罐头厂街》,借鉴中国传统文化中的道家思想尝试构建了新的道德体系,体现了对道家思想精髓的文化认同。与此同时,作品中对两个华人形象的刻画,又带有西方人对东方人认识上的固有定势与民族偏见。本文旨在分析作品体现出的作者对东方文化认识上的矛盾思想及其根源。
Nobel Prize laureate American writer John Steinbeck’s “Cannery Street” draws lessons from Taoism in Chinese traditional culture and attempts to construct a new moral system that embodies the cultural identity of the essence of Taoism. At the same time, the portrayal of the two Chinese images in the work carries with them the inherent stereotypes and prejudices against the oriental people. The purpose of this article is to analyze the author’s contradictions and their origins in understanding Oriental culture.
