Objective: To investigate the changes of electroencephalogram in rat sleep state caused by occlusal trauma. Methods: The rat models of occlusal trauma were established on the 1st, 3rd, 14th, 14th and 28th day. Rats were anesthetized at each cut-off time. The hippocampus electrodes were inserted into the left and right hippocampus of rats under sleep state under the guidance of stereotaxic apparatus EEG. Data were subjected to one-way analysis of variance using the SPSS17.0 software package. Results: The δ wave index increased and the EEG frequency and amplitude decreased (P <0.05). The δ wave index decreased and the frequency and amplitude increased in the 3 d group (P <0.05). The indexes of 28 d group tended to be normal. On the 7 d and 14 d groups, the δ wave index decreased and the EEG frequency and amplitude increased. Conclusion: Bite trauma can change sleep electrical activity in rats, which mainly affects deep sleep in rats and reduces sleep quality in rats.
