明遗民是指时空层面已由明入清、却因情感归属和心理认同始终指向明朝而拒应清朝科举、拒仕清朝的士人.明遗民与明忠烈的区别在于生死大限,但两者面临山陵之变皆能“不降其志,不辱其身”.忠烈悲壮的死和遗民艰难的生昭示着共同的精神价值:对国族的忠诚、面对强权的独立意志、对儒者人格理想的坚守.作为真实存在过的历史,他们也为当今社会培育国民的国族认同提供了优秀的范本,为培育和践行社会主义核心价值观提供了可资借鉴的理念,又提示了发掘和利用历史文化资源的新角度.
