In 1941 Jacques Lawrence, 23, has created 60 small tempera paintings of the Great Migration, depicting the immigration wave of African-Americans from the southern suburbs to the northern cities since 1915 for almost 30 years. Lawrence was one of the leading African-American painters of the 20th century, portrayed in the history and life of African-Americans, and immigrant series made him famous. From April to September this year, the Museum of Modern Art in New York collected these works for display to the general public and tried to further explore the historical heritage of the great migration by reproducing this period of history.
