曾经北京大学、墨尔本大学摆在面前,本着向高难度挑战的心态,我最终选择了世界排名更为靠前的新加坡国立大学(下简称“NUS”)。在此之前,我是华南理工大学的一名本科生。平凡、安分,不知出国为何物。直到大三,毕业论文的指导老师被邀请到NUS交流时一起做研究的院长,因为她跟NUS保持着友好的学术合作关系,当时很多优秀的师兄师姐都递交了自己的简历和申请材料,希望到新加坡攻读博士学位。那是我第一次接触出国留学的概念,那时的我也没想太多,只知道这是一个颇为吸引的机会。NUS在2009年QS世界排名30,而且每个月会提供相当于10,000元人民币的奖学金,可想而知,报名的学生们趋之若鹜。令我意外的是,大四开学,学院成绩排名里我竟然排到第三。这个位置要获得NUS的推荐机会处境依然比较尴尬,由于推荐名额有限,我的导师曾安慰我说即使没有争取到NUS的机会,她也可以推荐我去墨尔本大学(当年QS排名36)。另外,由于我大三曾参加北京大学软
