The Visual Arts Center at the School of the Arts, University of Iowa offers 126,000 square feet of space for numerous visual arts media, ranging from ancient metallurgy to advanced virtual reality, pottery, 3D design, metal art, jewelry art, sculpture and Painting art, graphic design, media technology, film and video art. The new museum also has galleries, office space, outdoor roof studio and art history teaching space. The Visual Arts Gallery replaced the original 1936 art building that was severely damaged by the floods in June 2008. An art house was formed around the Visual Arts Museum and the School of Art History, designed by Steven Holl Architects, which brought students to school since 2006
