On the basis of reviewing the development of English listening teaching theory, the book “Second-language Listening: Theory and Practice”, by John Flowlow and Lindsay Miller, applied linguistics experts, points out the flaw of traditional listening teaching theory At the same time, I put forward my own listening teaching mode, and through the case analysis, I give an instruction to English teachers in how to use this new mode to improve students’ listening ability in the face of different levels of teaching objects and teaching materials. The new model in the book links traditional listening comprehension patterns with all aspects involved in the process of hearing, including social factors and personal affective factors, which well reflects and explains the complexity of hearing itself.
