挪威鹰桥镍有限公司用Hybinette电解精炼法生产阴极镍的方法到1975年改用氯气浸出-电解法。1981年,全部改造工作完成。鹰桥氯气浸出法的主要原料是加拿大安大略省的萨德伯里的鹰桥冶炼厂的高冰镍,其典型组成如下: Ni:35~40%,Cu:30~35%.S:22~24%,Fe:2~3%.Co:0.9~1.0%. 首先用氯气浸出高冰镍,通过控制一系列浸出-置换槽中的矿浆的氧化还原电位,镍被有选择性地溶解。高冰镍中所含的全部铜和硫基本上以CuS的形态留在浸出渣中。浸出所得的高浓度氯化镍溶液由以下过程进行净化: a)沉淀铁和砷; b)用溶剂萃取其中的钴和其它元素; c)沉淀铅和残存的杂质. 净化后的氯化镍溶液送往电解槽生产各种镍产品。电解析出的氯气直接返回氯气浸出槽。经过从萃取后的有机相进行反萃取及溶液净化,电积回收钴。浸出后的含镍的硫化铜渣送往沸腾炉进行死烧,硫以液体二氧化硫回收并销售。焙砂用废铜电解液浸出并电积生产阴极铜。从浸出铜渣回收贵金属及其它贱金属。鹰桥氯气浸出法适用性很广。可处理含杂质范围广的原料而产出纯度很高的金属。
