This article describes the transient liquid crystal heat transfer measurement developed by the author at Oxford University, UK. A detailed map of the heat transfer distribution near the film hole in one side wall of the cooling channel of the blade, the film hole and the rib complex, and the film hole and the rib-groove composite is given. Transient liquid crystal technology is used successfully for high-resolution measurements of complex geometric surface heat transfer coefficients.
