La-Ce oxide was added to the Mg-Si nodulizer-treated hot metal. Then in the SG 2-8-13-type holding furnace in accordance with the conditions of large-scale castings solidification simulated anti-recession thermal insulation test. Thus, the effects of rare earth oxides on the spheroidization and anti-recession properties of hot metal were verified. The results show that the presence of rare earth oxides is detrimental to spheroidization of hot metal and to the ductile behavior of ductile iron. With the increase of rare earth oxides in ductile iron, the spheroidization level decreased. Anti-recession time shortened. Based on this, a new understanding of the role of the existing forms of rare earth in ductile iron to the hydrometallurgy and anti-recession effect was proposed.
