As a representative of the Sichuan youth, I transferred from Chengdu via the Xi’an Eighth Route Army Office in Chengdu in November 1938 to Yan’an. At the end of the month, I participated in the national conference led by the CPC Central Committee’s Youth League, the Second Northwest Youth National Salvation Congress. The venue was set up in a temporary wooden auditorium in the northern suburb of Yanan. Delegates (hundreds of delegates from the Anti-Japanese Base and rear area) lived in small bungalows and mountain dwellings in the neighborhood. At that time, Yan’an was the most concentrated, free and most active place for blood-resistant anti-Japanese youths, and it was the sacred place of democracy that the entire nation looked to. Under the simple and arduous conditions of clothing, food, shelter and transportation, they study and work for the nation and the people and enjoy the love and noble simplicity of the gay people
