Recently, scientists from France and the United States jointly reported that a common protein (Pc-1) variant plays a major role in type 2 diabetes and obesity and becomes a clinical key feature of "insulin resistance syndrome (IRS) The disease affects more than 50 million Americans and the same number of Europeans. In the United States and other developed countries, the incidence of this syndrome is also associated with coronary heart disease, hypertension and high cholesterol; some clinicians and researchers consider the syndrome as a metabolic syndrome. The new findings are based on large-scale French family genetic studies; the results have been published in the recent issue of Nature Genetics.
