为了提高铸件的内部质量,在铸件的凸台、壁厚及冒口底部安放冷铁,是保证获得优质铸件的重要措施之一。目前国内常用的冷铁材料主要是钢、铁、铜、铝及石墨等。对于结构复杂的铸件,用金属材料制造冷铁,不仅工艺制造繁琐、复杂,而且制造周期长,一般都要经过先制成石膏模(或用打样膏制成冷铁模),然后再制成金属冷铁,并要与模具型面加工配套,开通气槽,最后表面还要喷涂料烘烤处理等。一套金属材料冷铁经过反复使用后,其冷激作用将逐渐减小而失去作用。
