Chlamydia is a prokaryotic microorganism that is structurally linked to bacteria but lacks the energy system required for independent survival. Its reproduction and bacteria are different, need to go through a complex growth cycle. The cycle begins with infection of host cells with DNA-rich, 0.3 [mu] m diameter protoplasts. Protoplasts increase the formation of metabolic activity, diameter 1μm, RNA-rich network. The cytoplasm cleaves and proliferates within the vacuoles of the host cells, producing characteristic inclusion bodies. Finally, the protoplasts are differentiated by the net and released by the cells 48-72 hours after infection.
