生物界普遍存在杂种优势。十九世纪末叶首先应用在玉米上。近十年来我国在生产上利用烟草品种間杂交一代优势取得很大成績。烟草繁殖器官的一些特性对利用杂种优势是有利的。第一,花器大,构造明显,杂交手續簡便;第二,繁殖系数高,杂交一朵花大約可以得到二千粒左右的种子;第三,花期长,一般在三十天以上;第四,花粉耐儲藏,杂交成功率高。加上烟草每亩用种量少,因此,較之其他作物利用杂种优势条件更为优越。凤阳烟草研究所自1955年就开始这項研究工作,几年来选育出凤阳一号(富字六十四号×大平板)、凤阳二号(大平板×云南多叶)二个一代杂交种,以及一个优良杂交后
