1.Introduction
In order to meet the requirement of the needs of contemporary social and economic development,in July 2001,The New English Curriculum Criteria was formally published by Beijing Normal University Press which stresses not only the quality education and humanity as a dominant factor, but also the importance of a proper lesson planning which is essential for both novice and experienced teachers simply because no teaching situation is really static.
2.Explanation
Appendix 1 is a lesson plan for Unit 3 from New Senior English for China(Student’s Book 4)made by the author of this essay. As for teaching aims, according to The New Curriculum Criteria, students are put at the center of the curriculum. Therefore, the teaching objectives are formulated with the form of “by the end of the lesson, students should be able to…” Besides,as the New Curriculum suggests, the presented lesson plan adopts task-based teaching methods to promote students’ comprehensive language competence.
3.Reflection
The new curriculum expects English teachers to change in many ways.First, they are expected to change their views about language that it is not a system of rules but a means for communication.Besides, they are also expected to change their traditional role of a knowledge transmitter to a multi-role educator.Because language teaching is more than language knowledge and skills,it also includes caring for students’ affective needs, developing their learning strategies, widening up their cultural horizons and establishing international perspectives through the process of language learning.
Facing with the changes in the process of curriculum reform,no matter as a teacher or a would-be teacher,we should not only have an open mind towards different kinds of ideas to teaching and be willing to try out new approaches and find out whether they work or not,but also reflect ourselves now and then and try to use the resources available to help us with our teaching and self-learning.
