This paper studies the rare earth geochemistry of the sediments of Yan’er Lake, West Lake and Ke Tai Lake. The patterns of rare earths distribution in these lake sediments are very similar to the Tertiary volcanics in the Fildes Peninsula. Their source of material is the volcanic rocks of the Fildes Peninsula. The difference of lanthanian patterns between lacustrine sediments and glacial moraines reflects the different degree of chemical weathering and the different clay contents. The anomaly of Ce means that the climate at the end of each lacustrine sedimentary cycle is drier. Changes in the rare earth elements and distribution patterns of lake sediments also mean that the climate is relatively dry during the mid-late Pleistocene.
