Chen Li Chuan: What do you think of Confucius’s contribution to Chinese culture? Wang Demai: In my opinion, the most important thing Confucius did is to reform his era - the Chinese political system of the 6th century BC. At this point, Confucius played the role of a veritable founder. Confucius compiled the books of the nation and systematically revised it (this work was eventually completed by his disciples). The “Five Classics” that he compiled later became the cornerstone of Chinese culture. Until then, only official Chinese language was used to record the preservation of official files. Chinese characters were created by diviners during the Shang dynasty of the previous five hundred years to record the result of divination.
