Dealt with in this paper are some geochemical characteristics of porphyry copper minerali-zation,especiallythose observed in intrusive bodies, wall rocks, alteration zones, ores andpyrites.Ore-bearing bodies have been correlated with barren ones from such aspects as majorand trace elements, copper contents of biotite and pyrite, and distribution pattern of copper. In the mineralized rocks, trace elements show apparent zoning-surrounding ore bodies;majorand trace elements seem to show some regularities with respect to their variations in the pro-cess of alteration, and as a resulteach alteration zone displays its own peculiar element asso-ciation.Trace elements in ores can provide information on the genetic types of ore deposits, thus of great help in distinguishing ore types, while those in pyrites may be indicative of themain mineralizing stage, providing clues for distinguishing ore-bearing from barren rocks, andof the extent of-denudation of ore bodies.
