南澜沧江火山弧属于我国“三江”构造岩浆带,为全球特提斯成矿域的一部分,是中国极具找矿潜力的重要成矿远景区(莫宣学等,1998)。官房铜矿地处南澜沧江火山弧北段,夹持于临沧花岗岩基与澜沧江深大断裂之间,是澜沧江洋板块和思茅地块俯冲碰撞的聚合地区,是南澜沧江构造岩浆带为数不多的规模达到中型的正在生产和勘探的铜矿床,铜矿体主要赋存于上三叠统小定西组基性火山岩中。主要矿体以层状、似层状为主,主要分布在向阳山矿段隐伏闪长岩体的东南侧50~150 m处,以Ⅰ号
