The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts Extension is planned to be built on the south side of the existing facility and consists of three connected venues with rehearsal space and exclusive classroom and multi-purpose classrooms for basic arts education and arts management of the Performing Arts Center Education project A venue floats above the Potomac River and offers outdoor stages. The public garden is full of space, combining the Kennedy Center with landscapes and rivers. Outdoor spaces will utilize translucent Okalux, glass and Carrara marble, and the same Italian stone is also used in the cladding of the original amenities. The existing building profile will be retained by connecting to the new underground structure and through the main square. The public space will contain gardens; an outdoor video wall, simulcasts and other multimedia events will be cast upon it; and an outdoor performance space above the river.
