Objective To trace and analyze the development history and research hotspots in the field of global health research and provide reference for global health follow-up research. Methods Citation analysis of global health and international health related literature in the Web of Science core collection database was conducted, and a total of 54 citation articles with intercepted frequency greater than 0.01% (cited times ≥40 times) were included in this study. Citation is extracted through the lexical matrix. The data are clustered using SPSS 21.0, and the topics are summarized according to the contents of each type of citation, and the position of various topics in the global health research field is determined through the strategic citation coordinates. Results The average citations of highly cited papers were 61 times, the highest being 303 times and the lowest being 40 times. In recent years, the number of highly citable documents for global health has risen rapidly, reaching the maximum in 2008 with a total of 9 articles. Research in the field of global health can be broadly divided into six categories: global health development and curricular development; the role of international organizations in global health; prevention and control of infectious diseases and chronic diseases; research on global health financing and health systems; global health research Technology and methods; study of health risk factors and disease burden. Among them, the curriculum and project research of global health are the most concerned, with a total of 920 cited. The research on infectious diseases and chronic diseases prevention, health risk factors and disease burden has the highest novelty, with the average publication time of 2006. Conclusion Global health research is entering an accelerated stage of development. Global health curricula and project research are the hot topics currently studied. Research on infectious diseases and chronic disease prevention, health risk factors and disease burden will become the major development directions in the future.
