西汉中叶,龙的题材发生了重大变化。人们多将生活中常见的走兽、家禽、飞鸟等动物形象加以异化。数量众多的汉画像石和禽兽纹镜,尽管内容形式排列不同,但我们发现,在这些图纹中,青龙、白虎、朱雀和玄武都被刻画得十分突出。四者完整地组合在一起,就是人们常说的“四神”。“四神”是汉画像石和汉镜中使用最多、最广泛的题材,青龙或出现在一个图像上,或与其他奇禽异兽交错出现。这类图纹一直延伸到清代,直到现在还相当流行,影响可谓深远。
The mid-Western Han Dynasty, the dragon theme has undergone major changes. People often alienated the images of animals such as beasts, poultry and birds common in life. A large number of Chinese portraits of stone and animals, though different in content arrangement, we find that the dragon, the white tiger, the Suzaku and the basaltic are all vividly depicted in these patterns. Four complete combination, is often said “Four Gods ”. “Four Gods ” is the most widely used theme in the Han Dynasty stone and Han mirror, the dragon appears in an image or staggered with other fantastic animals. This pattern has been extended to the Qing Dynasty, until now still quite popular, the impact can be described as far-reaching.
