This article takes Guangzhou Asian Games as an example to analyze the information dissemination effect of urban events in regional space. First of all, the research combs the related theories of regional news dissemination, the spatial characteristics of response to news flow, regional identity in media dissemination, and reveals the cyberspace response mechanism of major events in regional news information. Secondly, In the empirical part, this study selected 107 cities from the perspective of the Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010 and took the place name frequency as the data collection method to analyze the absolute and relative associations of the sample cities’ responses to the Asian Games. Finally, Through stepwise regression analysis, the study finds that the mechanism of regional infiltration of Guangzhou Asian Games embodies the social and economic process of local governments participating in global competition with big events as a tool, but this process also deepens the regional identity rooted in local dialects.
