Host: ①With the World Cup just around the corner,
1)bookmakers are cashing in as ②more and more fans put their money where their mouth are. While we won’t be placing any bets ourselves, we can 2)speculate on the likely hits and misses throughout the World Cup 3)tournament. I am joined by sports commentator Todd Green. Now, Todd, let’s look first to the early rounds and talk about who will advance and ③who will be packing their bags early.
Todd: Undoubtedly, the clear 4)frontrunner is Spain. Switzerland and Spain should move forward from Group H without any complications. Group G is a 5)no-brainer…
Host: It has to be Brazil and Portugal.
Todd: That’s right. In Group A, France and Mexico will face little competition. Greece and Argentina will be moving swiftly forward from Group B and for Group C it has to be England and the USA.
Host: You are quite right. ④The USA is going to have a rough ride from there on in.
Todd: Australia and Germany are safe bets for Group D. That will put the Germans against the Americans and Australia against England. It’s not the exact World Cup bracket the Americans would like, but a win at this point won’t be easy against anyone.
Host: Precisely. Do go on, Todd.
Todd: I’d like Italy to place first and Slovakia to finish second in Group F. I pick the Netherlands and Cameroon to finish first and second respectively in the Group E World Cup bracket.
Host: ⑤Now we move on to the do-or-die portion of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Todd: In the second round I see France and England moving on with wins over Greece and Australia. Mexico will upset Argentina and Germany will advance over the United States. Netherlands and Brazil will both claim victories. Spain and Portugal will provide the best second round matchup, but it will be Spain moving on. Italy will also gain entry into the next round with a win over Cameroon.
Host: So, the final eight: England, France, Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Germany, and Mexico.
Todd: If all plays out like I predict: Brazil faces Germany in
the finals.
Host: ⑥And how do you think that will pan out?
Todd: Brazil edges Germany 2-1 in the Championship game.
