Mass communication is not a mere “inform ” activity, the message it conveys is usually accompanied by explanations of the incident and prompts the public should take what kind of action. In the present-day society where emergencies are frequent, the spread of science occupies an increasingly important position and it becomes more and more important for mass media to make scientific dissemination to the public. Newspapers, one of the mass media, often influence the audience in their scientific communications by citing the discourse of scientists in reports. On the one hand, the media scientifically explained the incident through the discourse of scientists, eliminating gossip; on the one hand, it conducted scientific guidance and avoided disaster. Taking the coverage of the 3.11 Japan earthquake in the three newspapers People’s Daily, Beijing News and Southern Weekend as an example, this article uses content analysis and other quantitative research methods to analyze the commonality of different newspapers in citing the discourse of scientists in news reports Frameworks and their respective frameworks to delve into the role scientists play in news reporting and how newspapers use scientists’ discourse to deliver the desired transmission.
