De Beers Industrial Diamonds worked with Montanwerke Walt-GmbH GmbH in Germany on satisfactory results. The purpose of the experiment was to improve the performance of cubic boron nitride polycrystalline tool materials in rough milling (to achieve t = 3 mm) and finish milling. The experimental material was DeBeers Amboritc cubic boron nitride tool material, using a new cassette load milling head system. The first trial included two typical milling operations. Only a 9.52 mm diameter Amborite insert with a 125 mm diameter milling cutter is machined on a 42CrMo4 machine tool with a hardened HRC53. The second test consisted of intermittent milling of a GG26 gray cast iron engine block. In both cases, the milling depth is 1 mm, but the circumferential cutting speed and feed rate are divided
