The book attempts to sort out a history of social, political and cultural conflicts triggered by inequalities in wealth and its distribution, presenting a vivid, lively human history. Capitalism in the 21st Century analyzes the wealth distribution data from the industrial revolution in the 18th century up to the present day and argues that unconditional capitalism leads to the aggravation of wealth inequality and that the free market economy can not completely solve the problem of inequity in wealth distribution. Picketi suggested restricting capitalism through democracy so as to effectively reduce the wealth inequality.
