Summary This special report presents the consensus reached at the CT Radiation Dose Management Summit (held in February 2011), a multi-faceted community of academics, clinics, industry, management and funding agencies that aim Is to determine the steps required to achieve a routine CT scan to reduce the effective dose to less than 1mSv. The most promising technologies and methods discussed at the summit include reforms and advances in X-ray sources, detectors, image reconstruction, noise reduction and post-processing algorithms. How to improve the efficiency and optimization of the algorithm of original projection data and standard data sets is a very clear need, meanwhile it is a new need to improve the clinically relevant image quality and diagnostic performance.
