由英国建筑师帕瑞克纽金斯著,顾孟潮、张百平译的《世界建筑艺术史》一书,宛若一幅壮丽的世界建筑艺术史画卷,在读者心中留下深刻的印象全书有四点,颇富启迪: 一选材纵横古今,驰骋全球,覆盖广博,堪称大跨度、全方位、多视点。从时间跨度,上溯史前8000年,下览20世纪70年代;从地域分区,遍及全球五大洲,自巴比伦、古埃及、古希腊、古罗马到亚洲、中东地区、南北美洲。可谓中外古今,名家名作名城,历历在目恍若遨游世界。世界三大建筑体系之一的中国建筑也在《建筑史》新版中专辟出第五章,以“谜与模度”为题,介绍了中国和日本建筑艺术。作者认为:“东方文化对于我们的史实——也是建筑艺术有其独特的贡献”而没有被忽视,打破了欧洲一统天下主体论的旧观念,这在学术思想上跨出了可喜的一步。
The book “The History of World Architecture Art” translated by Gu Mengchao and Zhang Baiping was written by the British architect Parek Newkins. It is like a magnificent picture of the history of architectural art in the world. It left a deep impression on readers. There are four points in the book. Rich in Enlightenment: A selection of material from ancient to modern, galloping around the world, covering a wide range, can be called a long-span, all-round, multi-viewpoint. From the time span, we traced 8,000 years of prehistoric history, and we visited the 1970s. From the geographical division, we spread across the five continents of the world, from Babylon, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome to Asia, the Middle East, and North and South America. Can be described as Chinese and foreign ancient and modern, famous masterpieces of the city, vividly witnessing the world. China Architecture, one of the world’s three largest building systems, also devoted its fifth chapter to the new edition of “History of Architecture”. It introduced the architectural arts of China and Japan with the title “Mystery and Modulus.” The author believes that “Oriental culture has a unique contribution to our historical facts, which is also a unique contribution to architectural art.” It has not been overlooked, breaking the old notion of subjectivity that dominates the world in Europe. This has taken a gratifying leap forward in academic thinking.
