An Asian elephant from India was sent to Vienna by the Portuguese court as a gift. Along the way, elephants escorted elephants and soldiers, experiencing all kinds of absurd bizarre encounters, and finally went through arduous hardships to reach their destinations. The novel is based on real events. The author criticizes the society from multiple perspectives by the sight of the elephant journey: the tyranny of power, the absurdity of the church and the ignorance of the people are all the focuses of the author’s attention. The travel of the elephants is also a metaphor of life. The book conveys the author’s profound view of life and death. Combining his humorous, tolerant and imaginative writing style, the most important work of the late Salalah was accomplished.
