在显微镜下检视酵母粉有两种形状:一种是不规则的不定形粉末(如广东海康及江门酵母),另一种是球形颗粒(如武汉酵母)。因酵母粉质松且有弹性,不易直接使粉末(或颗粒)间产生足够的内聚力而压紧,故大多数厂家采取湿法制粒,在制粒时加入大量的糖粉及碳酸钙等,使仅含干酵母0.3g的片剂片重达0.5g以上。即使如此,如用球形颗粒状原料生产的片剂,硬度仍不够好。为此,我们对不同形状的原料采用不同方法制粒压片,效果比较满意,
