Elaborated on the history of repairs: what achievements have been made in repairs in the past half-century; and what challenges will maintenance have to face in the next half-century. An example is given of equipment outages due to lack of maintenance, damage to the social environment, and casualties on a few occasions. Fortunately, maintenance work has been done in more cases, the environment has been improved, the profits of the industries have increased, and the image and status of the maintenance jobs have been strengthened. It also explores thought-provoking situations such as the continuous reduction of maintenance costs in certain industries and sectors. As a result, in some cases, business failures have resulted in catastrophic environmental consequences and casualties . The purpose of this paper is to raise awareness and debate in the maintenance industry and in a wider range of industries as well as national and global associations interested in this issue.
