二十多年前拙撰的《说文部首铨释》于一九八○年问世,初版就印销了六万册,后来又重篆字头改版印了两次,又被人译成日文、在日本精印出版。还曾被台湾书商几次盗版、听说有几种版本,但详情及印数均不详……估计国内外先后出版数量当在八、九万册以上。这就古文字书的出版而论,是个『破天荒』的数字。不过,我并不惬意,因为我对解释《说文部首》实无兴趣和好感,我一直想另起炉灶,编写一部新的《古篆文部首》,用以代替这部『圣书』——它应该是 Twenty years ago, my essay “The First Language Interpretation” was published in 1980.
