The status quo in the United States is rather poor. Day-care nurseries are poorly managed and the quality of service is often poor and costly: in 35 states and Washington, DC, day care costs are higher than in a year’s state college. The United States is the only rich nation that can not guarantee paid or paid sick leave, so many parents are affected by the snowy days or when their children have a fever and can not afford to go to school. The situation is even worse for job-savvy parents. We always use other countries, usually European countries, as a model for how to do the right thing for conservation. But are working parents in Paris really easier than parents in Peoria? We ask their parents in the world about their parenting practices. The following is the first of our series.
