解放后,我国城市建设有了很大发展,老市区加上近郊区均已辟成建成区,使市区面积成倍扩大。由于人口增长、工厂新建,促进了交通及道路的迅猛发展。北京、上海、武汉、南京、重庆等市,主要干道每昼夜的交通量都在一万辆以上。在城市道路中,不仅道路铺装面积增长大,而其中高级路面发展更快。但总起来看,我国城市道路路面的面积率(城市道路路面的面积与市区面积之比率)一般在2~4%左右,比起国外的首都和中心城市,是相当落后的。极需全面规划,增加投资,对市政建设队伍加强机械装备,以加快城市道路建设速度,逐步满足交通和人民生活的需要。

In the urban roads, not only the road pavement area increased greatly, but the advanced pavement developed faster. However, in general, the area ratio of urban road pavement (the ratio of urban road pavement area to urban area) is generally 2 to 4%, which is quite backward compared with the capital cities and central cities abroad. It is extremely necessary to comprehensively plan and increase investment and strengthen the machinery and equipment for municipal construction teams so as to speed up urban road construction and gradually meet the needs of transportation and people’s livelihood.
