From July to December 2013, Luoyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archeology unearthed two sections of the Western Wall ruins and a section of the South Wall ruins of Wangcheng in the east while cooperating with capital construction. These three sections of the city walls are composed of two or more rammed earth with different types of soil, which should be later built on the wall. Judging from the contents of rammed earth, the beginning of the three-stage wall was not earlier than that of the Warring States early and mid-ages, and the era of remolding walls should be in the Warring States Period to the Qin and Han dynasties. The excavation of the three sections of the city wall provided new archaeological materials for the study of the founding of the city walls of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty and the construction and layout of Wangcheng in the Eastern Zhou dynasty of Luoyang.
