In the past, scholars often focused on emphasizing the difference between the two while neglecting the succession relationship between Zhu and Neo-Confucianism. This article argues that the formation of Zhu’s Neo-Confucianism came largely from his response to the loss of ancient etiquette at that time. The purpose of Zhu was to rebuild the ancient etiquette instead of creating a new and different philosophy. However, At that time, due to the change of social environment, his interpretation and reconstruction also inevitably increased on the basis of traditional ethics. Zhu Neo-Confucianism is more of a supplement, not a substitute for traditional ethics. From this we can also understand more deeply the essence of the ethics of the Qing Dynasty.
