The authors report the effects of safflower and Chinese angelica on acute myocardial ischemia in conscious and anesthetized dogs. The number of ST-segment elevation (△ ΣS-TmV) and ST≥2 mV electrodes (△ NST) were used as indexes of myocardial ischemia degree and range, respectively. To 8 awake dog intravenous Safflower (1.25g / kg), 5 myocardial ischemia reduced; 2 increased; 1 no significant change. Nine anesthetized dogs in intravenous Safflower, myocardial ischemia and extent were reduced, heart rate also slowed down. When 5 beagle dogs were intravenously injected with Angelica sinensis (4 g / kg), the myocardial ischemia increased and the heart rate accelerated in 3 of 3 dogs. There was no significant change in 2 of them. In the 8 anesthetized dogs, 3 myocardial ischemia reduced, heart rate slowed down; 4 no change; 1 increased. The author believes that the mechanism may be related to changes in heart rate.
