They should not be contaminated with hypocrisy, deceitfulness and defilement, thus impairing the nature of human beings, that is, they should embrace simplicity and truth. This is the Taoist ideal of humanity. Everything is done and it extends to the arts. The practitioners should maintain the simple nature, observe the world with clear eyes, and on this basis, refine and sublimate their own art in the constant alternation of negation and affirmation. Embracing simplicity is one of the qualities that a good artist should have, and can even be described as a prerequisite for moral ideas in artistic creation. The face of Sun Wensang’s paintings, the viewer can appreciate this quality. His most recent creative themes are landscapes, which tend to use the fusion of Impressionist and traditional realistic painting styles to depict specific scenes in realistic oil painting language. After the Impressionist movement, the mainstream of art has gradually evolved from the objective expression of nature to the subjective expression
