The unofficial cease-fire of 1895 and the recovery of Taiwan in 1945 are two very crucial moments in the history of modern Taiwan. The numerous literary works that emerged at that time expressed the anger and resistance of the entire Chinese people, including the Taiwan compatriots, to the imperialist aggression Taiwan’s rejoicing and happiness toward returning to the motherland has become one of the focuses of academic circles across the Taiwan Strait in recent years. In particular, the period of its recovery was an extremely complex and tortuous period. It was not only a short period of four or five years in which Taiwan truly merged with the motherland in the centenary of the 20th century, but became a focal point and microcosm of the social class contradictions and the people’s revolutionary struggles of that time.
