In 1991, when it declared independence (in the former Soviet Union) and joined the EU in 2004, Estonia has been moving fast in the social and economic reforms. The ambitious vision of the Estonian Ministry of Culture advocating the establishment of a new national museum in Tartu is a vivid manifestation of the country’s quest for self-awareness and unique cultural arousal.
