Thomas Pynchon, a contemporary American author, is a mysterious writer. He rarely cast his eyes on his face and seems to be free from society. His works are all aimed at social reality and are concerned about the human condition. His early work, which was included in the short story collection “Slow Scholar”, has received less attention but its theme has been reflected in his later monumental work. By analyzing the five short stories “Light Rain”, “Lowland”, “Entropy”, “Under the Rose” and “Secret Fusion” in “Slow Scholars” one by one, we dig out the “Death” “” Voters Abandon “, ” Entropy “, ” Chasing “, ” Love and Convergence "and other themes, and explores Pynchon’s gradually expressed to us in these five short stories How to Find a Way out for Mankind in the Postmodern Wasteland Society.
